However, photographs, descriptions, colours, examples of previous work and other content are provided for general information and illustrative purposes.

Every property and decorating project is different. Information provided on the website should not be interpreted as a guarantee that an identical finish, result or timescale will be achievable for every property.

We reserve the right to update, amend or remove website content without notice.

  • Interior painting and decorating
  • Exterior painting and decorating
  • Wallpaper hanging
  • Feature walls and bespoke murals
  • Paint spraying
  • Cabinetry and furniture spraying
  • Colour consultation and advice

  • Decorating work on period and listed properties
  • Assistance with renovation and refurbishment projects where agreed.

The exact scope of work will depend on the requirements and condition of the individual property.

4. Quotations

Where requested, Dove Mill Decorating may provide a quotation for proposed work.

Quotations are based on the information available and the condition of the property at the time the quotation is prepared.

A quotation may need to be revised where additional work is required because of circumstances that could not reasonably have been identified beforehand.

This may include:

  • Additional preparation
  • Damaged or defective surfaces
  • Damp or water damage
  • Rot or deterioration
  • Structural movement
  • Previously concealed defects
  • Additional repairs
  • Specialist preparation
  • Changes requested by the customer
  • Additional materials or products
  • Changes to the agreed specification.

Where reasonably possible, any significant additional work and associated costs will be discussed with the customer before the work is undertaken.

5. Acceptance of a Quotation

A quotation will only constitute an agreement to undertake work once it has been accepted by the customer and confirmed by Dove Mill Decorating.

Project-specific quotations or written agreements may contain additional terms that apply to the particular project. Where there is a conflict between these general Terms & Conditions and a project-specific written agreement, the project-specific agreement will take precedence.

6. Customer Responsibilities

Customers are responsible for providing reasonable access to the property and areas where work is to be carried out.

Customers should, where appropriate:

  • Remove valuable, fragile or personal possessions from working areas
  • Provide access at agreed times
  • Inform Dove Mill Decorating about known defects, damp, leaks or other relevant issues
  • Inform us about any known restrictions affecting the property
  • Ensure children and pets are kept safely away from working areas
  • Provide reasonable access to water and electricity where required
  • Ensure other contractors working at the property do not prevent agreed decorating work from being carried out.

Where customers are responsible for moving or protecting belongings, Dove Mill Decorating cannot accept responsibility for items that have not been appropriately removed or protected.

7. Preparation and Existing Surfaces

Proper preparation is an important part of achieving a high-quality decorating finish.

Depending on the project, preparation may include cleaning, sanding, filling, scraping, priming, sealing or other appropriate preparation.

Existing surfaces may contain defects that are not immediately visible.

Dove Mill Decorating will take reasonable care to identify issues that become apparent during preparation, but cannot be responsible for defects that are concealed or could not reasonably have been identified before work began.

Additional preparation or remedial work may incur additional charges where it falls outside the agreed scope.

8. Period and Listed Properties

Dove Mill Decorating has experience working on period and listed properties.

However, responsibility for obtaining any necessary planning permission, listed building consent or other property-specific permissions remains with the property owner unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing.

Customers should inform Dove Mill Decorating of any relevant restrictions or requirements affecting the property before work begins.

Where specialist materials or traditional methods are required, these will be discussed with the customer as appropriate.

9. Paint and Colour Selection

Customers remain responsible for approving colours selected for their project unless Dove Mill Decorating has specifically agreed to make the selection on their behalf.

Paint colours can appear different depending on natural light, artificial lighting, surrounding colours, surface texture and other environmental factors.

Colour consultation provided by Dove Mill Decorating is intended to help customers make informed choices, but cannot guarantee that a colour will appear exactly as expected in every lighting condition.

10. Wallpapering

Customers supplying their own wallpaper are responsible for ensuring that sufficient quantities of suitable wallpaper are available before work begins.

Where relevant, customers should ensure wallpaper is from the same batch to minimise colour variation.

Dove Mill Decorating will take reasonable care when hanging wallpaper. However, the final appearance may be affected by the characteristics, condition and manufacture of the wallpaper itself and the condition of the underlying surface.

Where supplied wallpaper contains a manufacturing defect, insufficient rolls or significant colour or batch variations, Dove Mill Decorating cannot be responsible for defects originating from the supplied product.

11. Paint Spraying

Paint spraying requires appropriate preparation, suitable products and protection of surrounding areas.

The final finish may be affected by the existing condition, material, previous coatings and construction of the item being sprayed.

Dove Mill Decorating will use appropriate preparation and application methods based on the surface and intended use.

12. Wood Restoration

Where wood restoration forms part of a project, the extent of restoration possible will depend on the condition, age, construction and previous treatment of the wood.

Hidden deterioration, rot, previous coatings or structural issues may only become apparent during preparation.

Where additional restoration work is required, this may fall outside the original quotation and will be discussed with the customer where reasonably practicable.

13. Renovation and Refurbishment Support

Dove Mill Decorating may provide assistance, advice or project-management support in connection with renovation or refurbishment projects where specifically agreed.

Where other trades or contractors are involved, Dove Mill Decorating does not accept responsibility for their workmanship, delays, materials or contractual obligations unless those services have specifically been contracted through Dove Mill Decorating.

14. Changes to the Agreed Work

Customers may request changes or additional work after a project has been agreed.

Additional work may result in additional charges and may affect the project timescale.

Where reasonably possible, changes and associated costs will be discussed and agreed before additional work begins.

15. Timescales and Delays

Dove Mill Decorating will make reasonable efforts to work within agreed timescales.

However, decorating projects can be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including:

  • Unexpected preparation or repair requirements
  • Poor weather affecting exterior work
  • Delays in receiving materials
  • Product availability
  • Access problems
  • Other contractors working at the property
  • Illness
  • Unforeseen property-related issues
  • Other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

Where a significant delay occurs, we will communicate this with the customer as soon as reasonably practicable.

16. Payment

Payment terms will be agreed with the customer as part of the quotation or project agreement.

Where an invoice is issued, payment is due within the period stated on the invoice.

Dove Mill Decorating reserves the right to pause or delay further work where agreed payments remain overdue.

17. Cancellation and Postponement

If a customer wishes to cancel or postpone agreed work, they should contact Dove Mill Decorating as soon as possible.

The consequences of cancellation or postponement will depend on the circumstances, the stage reached in the project and any costs already incurred.

Where statutory consumer cancellation rights apply, nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to remove or restrict those rights.

Where a customer asks Dove Mill Decorating to begin work during a statutory cancellation period, any legally required confirmation or request will be obtained where appropriate.

18. Completed Work and Defects

If you believe there is a problem with completed work, please contact Dove Mill Decorating as soon as reasonably possible.

We will have a reasonable opportunity to inspect the issue and, where appropriate, rectify a genuine defect arising from our workmanship and falling within the agreed scope of work.

The following are not normally considered decorating defects:

  • Normal wear and tear
  • Damage occurring after completion
  • Damage caused by the customer or third parties
  • Structural movement
  • Damp or water ingress
  • Leaks
  • Defects in the underlying structure or surface
  • Problems caused by unsuitable products or materials supplied by the customer

19. Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

Subject to this, Dove Mill Decorating will not be responsible for losses arising from circumstances outside our reasonable control or from defects or conditions within a property that could not reasonably have been identified beforehand.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

20. Photographs of Completed Work

Dove Mill Decorating may photograph completed projects for its own records and, where appropriate, promotional purposes.

We will take reasonable steps to avoid including identifiable personal information, private possessions or other details that could unnecessarily identify a customer or their property.

Where a customer’s consent is required for a particular use of photographs, appropriate consent will be obtained.
